Sanchez and the Pasadena Police Department invite members of the community to participate in the 40th Citizen Police Academy.The Citizen Police Academy (CPA) is a twelve-week class held on Thursday evenings during which participants engage in presentations and discussions on Pasadena Police operations and the principles of community policing.“We strive to promote a greater awareness and better understanding of your local law enforcement’s role in the community,” a police representative said.Hosted by the Police Department’s Community Services Section, the classes are presented in a friendly and informal classroom environment.“We provide a lovely family style dinner each night while you are presented information on topics such as police communications, laws of arrest, policies, practices and procedures for crime enforcement, prevention and investigations. Learn about field identification and forensics and spend a day at the police range for lectures and demonstrations on weaponless defense and firearms safety. You are invited to hear from law enforcement professionals about how we operate and why we chose a career in public service,” officials said in a statement.Participants who successfully complete the CPA will enjoy a graduation dinner and receive a certificate of completion. Those interested, may also be eligible to join the PPD core of Volunteers.Eligibility for the Citizen Police Academy is contingent upon meeting the following requirements:• Minimum 18 years of age• Live, work, own property, or verifiable community involvement in Pasadena• No felony convictions• No misdemeanor convictions within one year of applicationSchedule – The next Class is scheduled to begin on January 30, 2014 and will meet on Thursdays from 5:30-9:00 p.m. at the Pasadena Police Department, 207 N. Garfield Avenue. The Class is Free of Charge.
