27 Apr 2017 England teenagers to target Fairhaven team titles A dozen of England’s leading young players will make up mixed teams for the Nations Cup competition at next week’s Fairhaven Trophies. The international U18 championship will be played over 72 holes at Fairhaven Golf Club, Lancashire, from 5-7 May. The team event takes place over the first 36 holes, with the best two scores from three counting in each round. The players in the four England teams are all members of England Golf squads.They are: Team One: Michael Gilbert, 16, (Chelmsford, Essex), Harry Goddard, 17, (Hanbury Manor, Hertfordshire) and Lily May Humphreys, 15, (Stoke by Nayland, Essex). All three are England U18 internationals. Gilbert won the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters; Goddard is the Daily Telegraph Junior Champion; Humphreys is defending the girls’ title at the Fairhaven Trophies and is also the English U16 girls’ champion. Team Two: Jack Cope, 17, (Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire), Danny Daniels, 18, (Essendon, Hertfordshire) and Amelia Williamson, 16, (Royal Cromer, Norfolk). Cope and Daniels were in England’s winning team at last year’s Canadian International Junior Challenge; Williamson (image © Stills Photography) is a girl international and has just won the Gold Rose for her combined performance in the Roehampton Gold Cup and the Hampshire Rose. Team Three: Barclay Brown, 16, (Hallamshire, Yorkshire), Conor Gough, 14, (Stoke Park, BB&O) and Caitlin Whitehead, 14, (Kendal, Cumbria). This is an U16 combination bringing together Brown, an England U16 international; Gough, the English U14 boys’ champion; and Whitehead, the winner of the 2016 Scottish U14 girls’ championship. Team Four: Tom Cleaton, 17, (Rugby, Warwickshire), Kristian Tannum-Donaldson, 17, (Buckinghamshire, BB&O) and Martha Lewis, 17, (St George’s Hill, Surrey) Cleaton was eighth in the recent Peter McEvoy Trophy; Tannum Donaldson also helped England win the Canadian International Junior Challenge; and Lewis was fourth in the Scottish girls’ open championship earlier this month.
