Some would argue it is downright barmy. And on first reflection, you can see their point. But it makes sense when you really think about it.Most of us buy shares with a view to holding them for five or 10 years. In some cases for much, much longer. Over that sort of timescale, the price drops that many investors have recently endured tend to be ironed out. Provided, of course, that said investors haven’t packed their shares portfolio with duds.5G is here – and shares of this ‘sleeping giant’ could be a great way for you to potentially profit!According to one leading industry firm, the 5G boom could create a global industry worth US$12.3 TRILLION out of thin air…And if you click here we’ll show you something that could be key to unlocking 5G’s full potential…Remember that the average long-term investor tends to enjoy an average annual return of between 8% and 10% on their stock holdings. So market crashes, whilst inconvenient, don’t tend to harm share pickers’ ability to make big returns on their investments. In fact, crashes allow them to maximise their returns by buying at even cheaper levels. It could even boost their chances of making a million.Switch out, switch inIt’s a good idea to have cash on hand in order to capitalise on these buying opportunities. I realise that times are tough. It may be more difficult for investors to have the funds to buy shares right now. There are plenty of people too, who might be able to buy but want to keep extra cash on hand as an insurance policy as economic conditions worsen. It’s still possible for investors to play the market crash in both these scenarios, though. You can always sell part or all of your shares in certain companies to buy other stocks that are too cheap to miss, and/or that have better growth or income prospects following the Covid-19 outbreak.Hold shares in highly-cyclical Lloyds Bank, for instance? Why not sell these to snap up some National Grid stock? The latter company has the sort of defensive operations, and the balance sheet strength, to keep paying above-average market dividends well into the 2020s. Lloyds, meanwhile, has had to axe dividends as per Bank of England advice. And it’s unlikely to begin paying dividends again soon either, given the poor economic outlook and with interest rates still collapsing.Play the market crashIt might be tempting to lock up your money in a low-risk product like a Cash ISA right now. However, such a strategy threatens to destroy your chances of making any sort of decent return on your hard-saved capital. Even the best-paying Cash ISA on the market only offers an interest rate of around 1%. By the time you factor-in the impact of inflation, well, you’ll probably be left with a great big hole in your pocket. It’s likely that a large number of ISA millionaires have made their wealth thanks in large part to clever timing. The idea that you and I can make a million from share investing isn’t just a pipe dream. By seizing the opportunity, and buying cheap shares following a market crash, you can make your chances of getting rich even further. first_imgIn an effort to support Liberia’s health sector the China Medical Team over the weekend rendered free health services to 80 persons in Paynesville, outside Monrovia. In her welcome statement earlier, Paynesville City Mayor Cyvette M. Gibson said she was impressed to have the China Medical Team providing free health services to residents of the city, especially those with serious complications.Mayor Gibson said, “We are very excited by the number of doctors, including an Ophthalmologist, Gynecologist, and China Traditional Medicine practitioner and others rendering these free health services to our people.”She said Paynesville City has also completed discussion with the China Medical Team to continue free health services every three months, in the various communities in the city.“We have 42 communities in Paynesville and the team will be visiting each of these communities to ensure that our people get free health services,” she said.Mayor Gibson said, “We look forward to seeing our residents healthy and coming to see a doctor annually,” urging Paynesville residents to take advantage of the free healthcare services by the China Medical Team. Oldest Fossils Aren’t

first_imgA new analysis of the world’s oldest claimed fossil rock, a banded deposit off the coast of Greenland said to be 3.8 billion years old, probably contains no signature of life, reports Stephen Moorbath (Oxford) in Nature.1  He has visited the Akilia site twice where rocks were purported to contain graphite of biological origin.  He couldn’t find it. This persuasive discovery seems an almost inevitable, yet highly problematic, consequence to the increasing scientific doubts about the original claim.  We may well ask what exactly was the material originally analysed and reported?  What was the apatite grain with supposed graphite inclusions that figured on the covers of learned and popular journals soon after the discovery?  These questions must surely be answered and, if necessary, lessons learned for the more effective checking and duplication of spectacular scientific claims from the outset.    To my regret, the ancient Greenland rocks have not yet produced any compelling evidence for the existence of life by 3.8 billion years ago. (Emphasis added in all quotes.)Add to that the downgrading of claims about life-signatures in Western Australian rocks said to be 3.5 billion years old, and there is a big gap until the more reliable claims of bacterial fossils in Ontario’s Gunflint formation said to be 1.9 billion years old.  “ To have a chance of success,” he warns, “it seems that the search for remnants of earliest life must be carried out on sedimentary rocks that are as old, unmetamorphosed, unmetasomatized and undeformed as possible.  That remains easier said than done.”1Stephen Moorbath, “Palaeobiology: Dating earliest life,” Nature 434, 155 (10 March 2005); doi:10.1038/434155a.This admission does nothing to help the Darwinists.  Even trusting the shaky dating methods for the sake of argument, it adds to the problem that life appeared suddenly in a profusion of forms.  Moorbath has just robbed his fellow Darwinists of half their allotted practice time for bacteria to hone their engineering skills.  Those bacteria must have had to race extra fast to invent all the molecular machines needed for the higher organisms that followed.  To add to the Darwinists’ woes, the microbiologists are finding evidence of sophistication in the most “primitive” forms of life (see next entry).  A cartoon of a man’s head in a vice comes to mind.    Did you catch the line that a claim was made without sufficient evidence, yet was featured on the covers of “learned and popular journals”?  Could that be happening today?  Has anyone learned the lesson? Looking For Radio’s Future? Check The Car

first_imgRole of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement Tags:#cars#CES 2013#ford sync#internet radio#Pandora#radio The Rise and Rise of Mobile Payment Technology Related Posts What it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech …center_img Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces john paul titlow You’d think terrestrial radio would be at death’s door by now.Just like written news, audio content is delivered much more effectively via the Internet than by traditional means. But FM radio is going strong and Internet services comprise only a tiny percentage of total listening time. Now, though, more and better in-car integrations are about to give Internet radio a huge shove into the future. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week, the partnerships are springing up left and right. Chrystler and GM are teaming up with iHeartRadio. Rhapsody is coming to new Ford cars. So is Amazon Cloud Player. Slacker Radio is integrating with Chrystler’s UConnect in-car entertainment system, which happens to be Pandora’s 19th such partnership as well.Expect to see many more of these integrations between cars and digital media services. Not only are one-on-one formal partnerships becoming more common, but cars are becoming platforms for third-party app developers. Ford just launched an open-source software development kit (SDK) so apps can be built right into the steering wheel and dashboard. One of Ford’s technical partners is jacAPPS, an app development house with a long list of digital radio projects under its belt. “They’re people who understand radio, working on radio’s in-car future,” writes radio futurologist James Cridland.Terrestrial radio isn’t sitting idly by, either. Clear Channel has been aggressively developing its iHeartRadio service, which is being built into more and more new cars. Meanwhile, NPR is already working with Ford Sync, Audi, Honda and Subaru, with several more partnerships with carmakers in the works for 2013.Changing The Face Of Radio, V-e-r-y S-l-o-w-l-yAll of this is a big deal for Internet radio adoption. Americans do about half of their radio listening in the car. Connecting smartphones via auxiliary cables and Bluetooth is increasingly common, but the user interface remains clunky and jumping from app to app and queuing up Internet radio stations can be cumbersome – if not outright dangerous – while driving. That’s why Apple is working with car manufacturers to integrate Siri into the dashboard. It’s also why voice control is a central feature on Ford Sync. These deals aren’t going to kill terrestrial radio overnight, or perhaps ever. After all, radio stations don’t crash or experience service outages like Internet apps and services too often do. And radio signals remain much more reliable than Internet connections, especially in moving vehicles. More to the point, though, while all of the new innovations are neat, new cars are expensive and the roads are filled with older ones that run just fine but don’t have the latest technology. It will be decades before technology like this exists in a majority of U.S. cars.By bringing the most popular Internet radio and music streaming services directly to the dashboard, car manufacturers are making the user experience even more seamless – and crucially, putting more listening options at driver’s fingertips. It will be a slow process, but expect radio to sound more decidedly less old-fashioned as more connected cars fill the road.last_img read more

Pawar not to contest MCA election; Vengsarkar, Vilasrao vie for top post

first_imgInternational Cricket Council (ICC) president, Sharad Pawar, has decided not to seek re-election as the president of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for a sixth term.Spooked by the MCA’s residency clause, Pawar took the decision as he is not a permanent resident of Mumbai, Thane or Navi Mumbai, which is a pre-requisite for holding a post in the association.Pawar, who was elected as the MCA chief for the first time in 2001, has lived in Mumbai for over 40 years. However, he had shown himself as a native of Baramati in Pune for the Lok Sabha election in 2009.The development means the MCA election would now be a straight fight between former Indian skipper Dilip Vengsarkar and Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. The Shiv Sena has backed Vengsarkar for the MCA president’s post.last_img read more

Patriots make 3rd straight Super Bowl, beat Chiefs 37-31 OT

first_imgUS judge bars Trump’s health insurance rule for immigrants Lacson backs proposal to elect president and vice president in tandem “We put ourselves in position to win the game, that’s what makes it so tough,” Reid said. “If it’s a rout, you chalk it up to experience. But this one right here, where you’re in it to win it, that’s a tough deal. We gave ourselves every opportunity to do it, and they got us in overtime.”The Chiefs hadn’t been blanked in any half this season, but they barely were a presence in the first 30 minutes, when they had the ball for 8:53. Mahomes was sacked three times for 43 yards; Kansas City’s record-setting attack ran only 16 plays and gained a mere 32 yards. The zero disappeared quickly in the third quarter. Finally given solid protection, Mahomes unleashed a 54-yard completion to Sammy Watkins over All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore. He then hit another All-Pro, tight end Travis Kelce, on a slant to make it 14-7 — and awaken the slumbering crowd. But one of several bad decisions further damaged Kansas City when Tyreek Hill, the All-Pro flex player, retreated deep in Chiefs territory returning a punt. Eventually, KC had to punt and the Patriots had excellent field position, setting up a 47-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski. Not one to be shy about innovation, Mahomes completely sidearmed a throw to Watkins for 10 yards on a third down, then a dump-off to Williams covered 33. Kelce drew a pass interference call on J.C. Jackson in the end zone, and Mahomes threw a strike to Williams for the score.Although the Chiefs were on their heels much of the night, they were down only 17-14.LOPSIDED FIRST HALFJust as they did last week in manhandling the Chargers early and cruising, the Patriots delivered a message — and a touchdown — on their first series. It was a classic, covering 80 yards in 15 plays and using up more than eight minutes. Michel, who had 113 yards rushing, scored from the 1.But Brady made a rare mistake on the next dominant drive. His third-down pass from the 1 for Rob Gronkowski was short and Reggie Ragland picked it off.Brady had never thrown an interception from the 1. Oil plant explodes in Pampanga town “This is crazy,” said Brady, who was 30 of 46 for 348 yards. “What a game.”It’s the first time both conference title games went to OT. The last time both visitors won conference championship matches was 2012; New England was 3-5 on the road this season.“We knew what our record was, but we didn’t let that dictate us,” said defensive end Trey Flowers, who led a staunch charge on Patrick Mahomes. “Whatever happened in the regular season happened. We came out and did it when it counted.”Several times, the Patriots appeared to have it won, only to see Kansas City (13-5) come back in spectacular fashion.Brady, at 41 already the oldest quarterback to have played in a Super Bowl, drove New England 65 yards in 1:24 to Burkhead’s go-ahead 4-yard touchdown with 39 seconds left in regulation. That was enough, though, for his far younger counterpart, the 23-year-old All-Pro Mahomes, to take the Chiefs 48 yards to Harrison Butker’s 39-yard field goal with 8 seconds left to force overtime.ADVERTISEMENT When the Chiefs finally got a trademark big play on Mahomes’ 42-yard completion to Hill, it went for naught. Mahomes overthrew a wide-open Williams near the end zone, then took a 14-yard sack to send KC out of field goal range.Big mistake. The Patriots kept dominating the line of scrimmage, Brady took them 90 yards and connected with Phillip Dorsett over sloppy coverage by Steven Nelson to make it 14-0 with 27 seconds left in the half.STATSIn Week 6, the Patriots beat the Chiefs 43-40 in a game featuring 946 yards total offense. This one had 814. … New England has played in eight straight AFC title games, but this is its first road playoff win since the 2006 season vs. San Diego. … Brady matched former Patriots K Adam Vinatieri, now with the Colts, for the most wins in NFL history (236). … Kansas City’s defense tied for first in the NFL with 52 sacks, but had none on Sunday. New England had four.COIN TOSSReid’s decision to defer after winning the opening coin toss proved unwise as New England had 22 plays in the opening period, and Kansas City had seven. Then, the Chiefs lost the more important toss before overtime. Less than five minutes later, they were headed to the offseason.UP NEXTThe Patriots head to Atlanta to play the Rams in the Super Bowl. (AP Photo/Jeff Roberson)KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s the dead of winter, meaning the weather in New England can be brutal. And that the Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl.It took them overtime and more of Tom Brady’s brilliance to get there — for the third straight year. While the folks back home dealt with a frigid storm, Brady blew through Kansas City’s exhausted defense on a 75-yard drive to Rex Burkhead’s 2-yard touchdown run in a 37-31 victory Sunday for the AFC championship.ADVERTISEMENT Sports Related Videospowered by AdSparcRead Next It was a sizzling offensive showing in the fourth quarter after defense had been in charge most of the way. And Belichick now has 30 postseason victories, more than Bill Walsh and Don Shula combined. That Hall of Fame coaching duo also won five Super Bowls; Belichick shoots for No. 6 in two weeks. An apparent muff by the usually reliable Julian Edelman on a fourth-quarter punt return was overturned by a lengthy video review, prompting raucous booing and some demonstrative arguing from the usually laid-back Andy Reid. Edelman definitely touched his next try when Brady’s pass deflected off his hands directly to safety Daniel Sorensen. His 22-yard return set up Kansas City at the Patriots 23, and Damien Williams, who scored three times, had no defender near him down the left sideline for the score that made it 21-17, KC’s first lead.Back came Brady, engineering a 75-yard march on which Chris Hogan’s diving one-handed catch on third down appeared to touch the ground. Reid challenged — and lost.Minutes later, rookie Sony Michel scored from the 10, his second TD of the night. With 3½ minutes remaining, there was plenty of time for more points. Williams’ 2-yard run gave the Chiefs a 28-24 edge that New England took up most of the remaining time overcoming.
