Irish family farms on low incomes must be safeguarded – McConalogue

first_imgCalls have been made for the Pillar 1 Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) ceiling of €60,000 to be adopted in the next Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) by Ireland to protect family farms.According to figures released on Friday by Fianna Fail, just 1% of Irish farmers would be affected by a ceiling of €60,000 being put on the Basic Payment Scheme in the next CAP.Charlie McConalogue said: “Last year, the European Commission proposed BPS payment capping in the €60,000-€100,000 range for the CAP post-2020. “The next CAP reform should permit Member States to decide on the capping of direct payments at national level. Secondly, it is Fianna Fáil policy that the next CAP should reduce the current BPS payment ceiling to €60,000 in Ireland. The current ceiling is €150,000.“Such a policy shift would ensure that future CAP funds safeguard small and medium-sized farmers.“Based on latest parliamentary question reply data, over 99% of all eligible farmers (123,258) received a 2018 basic payment of under €60,000,”“Furthermore, a new ceiling at this level would provide a €74 million pot annually (€517 million over a 7-year CAP programme) to target supports to vulnerable sectors and strengthen measures for generational renewal,” McConalogue added. “This is a socially progressive policy which will safeguard the family model of farming and those on low incomes,” he said.“Fianna Fáil were the first political party in 2017 to call for a €60,000 BPS ceiling. We will continue to campaign to achieve this as a key plank of our agriculture policy in the time ahead.”Irish family farms on low incomes must be safeguarded – McConalogue was last modified: March 8th, 2019 by Shaun KeenanShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:charlie mcconalogeDonegal Farmingfarminglast_img read more

Ohio Ag Weather and Forecast — October 13, 2017

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Ryan Martin 10-13-17Even though the past couple of days have made it feel like we never will get good drying back, sunshine will take more control of the state today and that will begin to drive temperatures up some. The dry weather continues tomorrow and will pair with stronger winds out of the southwest. This will increase our evaporation rates and lead to good dry down statewide. Temps will be back to above normal levels. Winds for Saturday should average 12-25 miles an hour with stronger gusts. The next chance of rain we see is still on track for Sunday. Some models are bringing the front about 6 hours sooner, others are holding it off till late afternoon. No matter when it arrives, Sunday will be wet, but the rains will be done by midnight at the latest. We are keeping rains totals at .25”-.75” over about 75% of the state, but will skew many areas to the lower end of the range. The main reason for that is that the front looks like it may want to move faster, allowing for shorter duration rains in most places. The map above shows thoughts of cumulative rains for the event through midnight Sunday night. We are happy to report no changes to our forecast for next week. We will be completely dry starting Monday morning and that pattern holds through the following Monday! We will have some cooler air in to start the week behind our Sunday front, but we should not see the lingering clouds and dampness that we saw this past week. Sunshine will help temps bounce quickly and the will see them climb to mostly above normal levels by late in the week, if not by midweek.Evaporation rates will be near maximum by midweek and will hold through the end of the period as well, thanks to strong high pressure. In the extended period, we have a front early on around the 24th that can bring up to .75” of rain to about 80% of the state, but it is followed up by another strong upper level high pressure dome. This will allow for some drying, but also cooler air to come in as we finish the month of October. We could see a second front around the 29th into the 30th that has half to 1.5” rain potential. However, the best rains from that front may stay farther west and north.last_img read more

3 Things To Keep in Mind While Updating Your Demo Reel

first_imgAre you getting your demo reel ready for newer and bigger projects? Here are three considerations you should keep in mind when showcasing your work.As we head into another new year, cinematographers and DPs are taking inventory of the work they did last year. Despite the stock filmmakers take in their reels, the demo is an ever-changing currency. I talked to some directors and decision-makers about what they look for — or don’t — in a demo reel. Here’s their advice.Don’t Overestimate a Reel’s ImportanceDA Yirgou is a creative director, writer, photographer, and film director whose works include the LeBron James shortdoc “Long Live The King” for KITH and Nike. Yirgou’s visual style is a magical-but-hard-edged vantage that relishes nostalgia with light leaks and landscapes. This year he was named Creative Director of Matte Projects, a New York-based agency with clients like American Express, Christian Louboutin, and Alexander Wang. A reel isn’t as important to him when it comes to selling his own work or sizing up the work of others.“It used to be massive. A chance to show breadth,” Yirgou says. “But now it’s something I worry less about. There’s not enough time in between projects and work to really develop one every six months, if even that. Clients and production don’t keep up with portfolios in the traditional sense. It’s much easier for them to see your growth and activity through social.”Keep Your Collaborators in MindAmy Gardner is a sought-after artist and choreographer who’s worked with Madonna and Justin Bieber. She’s also an emerging director. Her first film to work on in that role, FUEL, called attention to the sculptural visions present in her body of film photography. Because Gardner works with filmstock — and her modern dance experiments sing in concert with specific camera choreo — there were high stakes when finding a director of photography for FUEL.She settled on Katelin Arizmendi, with whom she’d worked on a project for Kodak called “Girls on Film.”“I had been following and admiring her work for a while, and I had wanted to hire a female DP for FUEL, so I reached out. We met for coffee, and she was excited by the project, so we moved forward together,” Gardner says.“Truthfully, a reel isn’t the biggest component for me. I am more concerned about their taste and energy than their reel. I am also more concerned with how we connect, if we vibe on the same level and honor the same things.”Say Something SpecificCommunicate consistency in collected works, who you’re building relationships with, and how that’s all presented on social media, Yirgou says. Up-and-comers often cram disparate projects into their reel, which can drown out the voice they hope to cultivate.“I look for work that’s unique, representative of your style and aesthetic. That’s what immediately stands out when you have to review people you’re unfamiliar with,” Yirgou says. “Higher-profile brand work makes a quick statement on what your focus is, and if that is not 100 percent indicative of what you want to keep making, then it’s a disservice. If you don’t have the brand or paid work that shows off that vision, you have to invest in smaller projects — even if it’s just for your social, to make sure you’re getting seen for it.”Cover image via Amy Gardner.Looking for more film and video production tips and tricks? Kane leads Spurs’ recovery in 2-2 draw at Juventus

first_imgTyphoon Kammuri accelerates, gains strength en route to PH “We are a young team in this competition. To show that performance is to be proud and to congratulate the players because they were fantastic.”Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri reacted strongly afterward when it was suggested his team, which is going for a seventh successive Serie A title, should have beaten Spurs, which is fifth in the Premier League.“I think people have lost a bit of objectivity,” said a clearly annoyed Allegri. “Juve plays to win but it’s not favorite. You can’t go to the final every year. I think the lads are having a great season, but it’s a long leap from there to think they’re going to win a last-16 match 3-0.“That drives me nuts, because people don’t have an idea about the other teams. I can’t accept that people are getting depressed over a 2-2 draw, it seems like we lost 8-0.”It was also an exciting first half in Basel, with Manchester City scoring three goals before going on to win 4-0 to leave it with one foot in the quarterfinals.ADVERTISEMENT Read Next Globe Business launches leading cloud-enabled and hardware-agnostic conferencing platform in PH Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen, 2nd left, celebrates with teammate Erik Lamela and Harry Kane, right, after scoring his side’s second goal during the Champions League, round of 16, first-leg soccer match between Juventus and Tottenham Hotspurs, at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Italy, Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018.
