first_imgThe 10K has gone from strength to strength over the years.Letterkenny Town Council is to host a Civic Reception for past and present members of the North West 10k committee who have helped to raise €656,000 for 19 charities since it was setup in 1996.The proposal was made by Fianna Fail Cllr Dessie Larkin during the last formal meeting of the Town Council on Monday night. The North West 10k is sponsored by DonegalDaily.com and Brian McCormick Sports & Leisure. Cllr Larkin spoke of the wonderful work that the 10k committee continued to do as evidenced by the charity run and walk at the beginning of May where the two main organizations to benefit were the Letterkenny Branch of the Dyslexia Association of Ireland and the Conwal Parish Church Restoration Fund. Cllr Larkin spoke about the history of the event going back to the Rockhill 10k which ended in 1996. That’s when the North West 10k committee was formed and the event was initially hosted on a Saturday evening in Letterkenny before moving to a Sunday. Cllr Larkin said it drew massive crowds into the town providing a significant economic boost for shops and restaurants. He concluded by saying that 10k committee members past and present should be recognized before the Town Council is finally abolished at the end of the month.Cllr Larkin received unanimous backing for his proposal including Cllr Victor Fisher who said fantastic work had been done for a number of charities over the years.“It does something great for the town. It is a fantastic event and the work of the committee should be recognized” said Cllr Tom Crossan of the Letterkenny Community Residents Party. All Cllrs present supported the proposal including Gerry McMonagle, Ciaran Brogan, Jimmy Kavanagh, Lisa Culbert, Jim Lynch and Mayor Paschal Blake. While a date hasn’t been confirmed for the Civic Reception it will be held before the end of the month.  MEMBERS OF NORTH-WEST 10K COMMITTEE TO GET A CIVIC RECEPTION was last modified: May 16th, 2014 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:civic receptionLettrkenny Town CouncilNorth West 10klast_img read more
