Photo Brian McDaidMRS Brown’s Boy star Danny O’Carroll has spoken of his plans for TWO celebrity events in County Donegal on the same day next month to raise money for two separate charities – the Buncrana drowning tragedy and suicide prevention in the county.Danny, who plays Buster in the hit RTE comedy, revealed he had originally planned just one event to help establish a Pieta House centre in Letterkenny. But when he saw the tragedy in Buncrana unfold on television in Australia last month as the Mrs Brown’s Boys tour was finishing there, he said he was horrified. Louise James lost her partner Sean McGrotty, (46), her sons Mark (12) and Evan, eight, as well as her mother Ruth Daniels (59) and her 14-year-old sister Jodi-Lee.He is now planning two events on the same day to raise money for Louise and her baby Rioghnach-Ann who was rescued from Lough Swilly when Sean’s Audi car slid into the water from the Buncrana slipway.A celebrity golf classic has been arranged for the Rosapenna Golf Court in Downings on May 27 – and there will now be a separate gala dinner that night at the Shandon Hotel and Spa in Dunfanaghy.“I’ve never lost anyone to suicide but I’m hearing all the time of tragedies in Donegal and I felt I needed to do something so I began planning a gala dinner so that the charity Pieta House can have a presence in Donegal,” said Danny. “It takes €1,000 to help each person who goes to the charity so if we can raise €10,000 that’s potentially ten lives saved and as a society we have to do more to prevent suicides.”He said however that he was so upset at the Buncrana tragedy he felt he had to do something for Louise James and her four-month-old baby.“It was just such a tragic accident. I know money will be of little comfort to Louise right now but if I can help raise some money for her and her daughter then that’s what I want to do,” said Danny.“I haven’t spoken directly to Louise but I have spoken to people who have been helping her and she is delighted with what we are trying to do. I don’t know what I would do if I lost my wife and my two children like that.“They are two separate causes but I thought with all the celebrities who are going to be in Donegal on May 27 we could get two events up and running. “It’s going to be a happy day with loads of fun on the golf course and then at night the celebrities will be waiters for the gala dinner and two very worthwhile causes will benefit from it.”Danny joked: “If the celebrities are here, I might as well  use them twice!”Golf teams of four are being asked to make a donation of €500, with a table of ten at the Shandon Hotel gala dinner costing €750.Tickets are available now by calling the Shandon Hotel and Spa on (074) 913 6137.
