Ohio Ag Weather and Forecast — October 13, 2017

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Ryan Martin 10-13-17Even though the past couple of days have made it feel like we never will get good drying back, sunshine will take more control of the state today and that will begin to drive temperatures up some. The dry weather continues tomorrow and will pair with stronger winds out of the southwest. This will increase our evaporation rates and lead to good dry down statewide. Temps will be back to above normal levels. Winds for Saturday should average 12-25 miles an hour with stronger gusts. The next chance of rain we see is still on track for Sunday. Some models are bringing the front about 6 hours sooner, others are holding it off till late afternoon. No matter when it arrives, Sunday will be wet, but the rains will be done by midnight at the latest. We are keeping rains totals at .25”-.75” over about 75% of the state, but will skew many areas to the lower end of the range. The main reason for that is that the front looks like it may want to move faster, allowing for shorter duration rains in most places. The map above shows thoughts of cumulative rains for the event through midnight Sunday night. We are happy to report no changes to our forecast for next week. We will be completely dry starting Monday morning and that pattern holds through the following Monday! We will have some cooler air in to start the week behind our Sunday front, but we should not see the lingering clouds and dampness that we saw this past week. Sunshine will help temps bounce quickly and the will see them climb to mostly above normal levels by late in the week, if not by midweek.Evaporation rates will be near maximum by midweek and will hold through the end of the period as well, thanks to strong high pressure. In the extended period, we have a front early on around the 24th that can bring up to .75” of rain to about 80% of the state, but it is followed up by another strong upper level high pressure dome. This will allow for some drying, but also cooler air to come in as we finish the month of October. We could see a second front around the 29th into the 30th that has half to 1.5” rain potential. However, the best rains from that front may stay farther west and north.last_img read more

Knowing and Doing

first_imgDan Pink is one of my favorite writers. To Sell Is Human should be required reading, especially for non-salespeople who have to sell. His book Drive should be required reading for leaders and managers.I love Malcolm Gladwell, too. Like Pink, he is a tremendous writer and storyteller. The Tipping Point should be required reading for entrepreneurs and marketers. Blink should be required reading for salespeople. And Outliers should be read by all success-minded people. Both Pink and Gladwell are intellectuals. They both intellectualize the topics about which they write. You can learn a lot by reading them. But you can’t learn what you need to learn to be successful by reading intellectualized accounts of any subject.I have never played tennis, nor have I ever been on skis. I have never hit a tennis ball over a net, and I have never once made my way down the side of a mountain or a hill on two slick pieces of plastic. I could right now read a dozen books on tennis or skiing and still be completely unable to play tennis or ski better than I could by taking a couple of lessons. But having taken some lessons and spending some time on a tennis court or a hill, reading could help me understand my experience and how to improve it.You produce the best results in areas you are working to improve by coupling your experiential learning with your intellectual learning. If you read any good book on investing, that book will surely tell you that you must not be emotional about the investments you make. When you start losing in a position, you sell that position and protect yourself from losses. But you won’t know what it feels like to sell a stock that is down 10% when it is being hyped on television and when other people are building their position. You can read a good book on selling, and you will almost invariably find something about closing, or asking for commitments. You can read the words, you can understand the script, but until you ask a prospective client sitting across from you to sign an agreement, you won’t have any idea what that experience feels like (especially when they refuse to sign). You can read books about success and personal development, all of which have valuable messages and even more valuable guides to the actions you must take in order to succeed. But reading about personal development and success won’t make you successful. Only taking action will. (But if you take in enough success-oriented content, I promise you will start to take action.)There is a difference between an intellectual understanding of a subject and actually knowing the subject matter. Knowing something alone doesn’t produce any measurable results. Knowing something, having some chops, only works if you couple it with action (and if it’s something important to you, massive action). You will learn much of what you need to be successful by doing. You know enough already. But are you taking enough action?last_img read more

Saudi woman drives F1 car to mark end of ban

first_img\R Le Castellet (France), Jun 24 (AFP) Renault stole a march on their Formula One rivals today when they gave a Saudi Arabian woman a chance to mark a special day by driving one of their cars ahead of today’s French Grand Prix. On the same day that women celebrated being allowed to drive on the roads of Saudi Arabia, Aseel Al-Hamad, the first female member of her national motorsport federation, took the wheel of the same car in which Kimi Raikkonen won the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. She was part of a Renault ‘passion parade’ hours ahead of the first French Grand Prix in a decade and the first to be held at the Le Castellet circuit for 28 years. Aseel, who is a member of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, is a keen driver and motor sport enthusiast who took part in a training day on June 5 at the circuit. “I have loved racing and motorsport from a very young age and to drive a Formula One car goes even beyond my dreams and what I thought was possible. “It is a genuine honour to drive in front of the crowds at the team’s home race in France. “I hope doing so on the day when women can drive on the roads in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia shows what you can do if you have the passion and the spirit to dream.” Aseel is responsible for creation of strategies to promote the education and training of women in motorsport in Saudi Arabia.
