Warangal: In a bid to check the habitual offenders, the Warangal Police Commissionerate appears to be ruthless. Rightly so, the Commissionerate has been invoking the Preventive Detention (PD) Act that once used sparingly to ensure hardcore criminals behind the bars.Commissioner of Police V Ravinder has on Tuesday issued orders invoking PD Act against two women, who were involved in several theft cases. So far, the Commissionerate has invoked PD Act against 85 people due to their criminal record. Among them, there are seven women also. The Commissioner of Police said that PD Act has become a successful tool to check offenders, in addition to the routine policing. He said that effective usage of laws helps them control crime. Also Read – Techie strangled to death in Hyderabad Advertise With Us The police on Tuesday handed over orders of PD Act to two habitual offenders – N Krishnamma and S Lingamma of Budagajangala Colony near Madikonda village under Kazipet mandal in the presence of jailor. Posing as rag-pickers, the duo, who are presently in the Warangal Central Prison, had committed several house break ins, the police said. The two offenders took to theft in 2008 and had so far involved in seven theft cases. In addition to this, there are 18 cases against the duo, filed by the Railway police. “We are not going to spare anyone, who habitually involves in crimes. The onus is on police to protect the property of private and public,” Ravinder said.
